AI Engineer

ThinkDebug is looking for a highly technical, AI\-native Senior AI Engineer who can translate high\-level business requirements into practical, scalable, and customer\-focused AI solutions.

This role requires more than coding ability. We need someone who can understand abstract concepts, ask the right questions, identify what customers and stakeholders actually need, and turn those insights into effective technical designs and production\-ready applications.

You will work closely with clients and a small engineering team. The client environment has limited project management support, so you must be comfortable taking ownership of technical decisions, clarifying requirements, communicating trade\-offs, and driving delivery independently.

We value engineers who know how to simplify complex problems, prioritize what matters, and deliver high\-quality outcomes without wasting time on unnecessary complexity.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate high\-level specifications and abstract business concepts into clear technical designs and implementation plans.
• Understand customer needs, stakeholder expectations, and business objectives before choosing a technical solution.
• Design and build AI\-powered applications using LLMs, AI agents, RAG pipelines, and modern AI frameworks where appropriate.
• Make sound architectural decisions while balancing quality, delivery timelines, scalability, and cost.
• Identify the simplest effective solution instead of overengineering or building unnecessary features.
• Take ownership of technical delivery, from requirement clarification and solution design to implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration.
• Communicate technical concepts, risks, dependencies, and trade\-offs clearly to clients and non\-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with client stakeholders and engineers to turn product roadmaps into well\-defined, achievable deliverables.
• Anticipate edge cases, operational requirements, security considerations, and customer experience challenges.
• Build reliable integrations with external APIs, databases, payment systems, and other business platforms.
• Review code, establish engineering best practices, and maintain high standards for production readiness.
• Use AI development tools effectively to accelerate engineering while maintaining code quality, security, and reliability.

Required Skills and Experience

• 4 to 8 years of software engineering experience, with strong hands\-on technical and architectural capabilities.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience building production\-grade applications and APIs.
• Practical experience with LLMs, Generative AI, and AI application development.
• Experience integrating AI models and APIs, designing structured workflows, and building reliable AI\-powered features.
• Strong understanding of system design, API architecture, databases, authentication, security, and application performance.
• Ability to convert ambiguous requirements into concrete technical designs and actionable implementation plans.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical thinking and the ability to make decisions with incomplete information.
• A customer\-first mindset, with the ability to distinguish essential functionality from unnecessary complexity.
• Experience delivering software independently in environments with limited project management or product management support.
• Ability to explain technical decisions, justify trade\-offs, and challenge requirements constructively when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building AI agents, RAG systems, tool\-calling workflows, and applications using frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph.
• Experience with vector databases, embeddings, semantic search, and model evaluation.
• Payments or fintech experience, including payment gateways, transaction lifecycles, webhooks, reconciliation, or financial integrations.
• Experience building secure, reliable, customer\-facing applications in production.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, Docker, and production monitoring.
• Experience working directly with clients, founders, product leaders, or business stakeholders.
• Familiarity with AI\-native development workflows and tools that improve engineering productivity.
