About Otterz
Otterz is building the next generation of AI\-native accounting, auditing, assurance, and financial advisory services for U.S. businesses.
Our mission is to transform how businesses manage their finances by combining experienced accounting professionals with intelligent AI systems.
Our proprietary AI platform, **Nyra**, is designed to automate accounting workflows, accelerate financial close processes, analyze financial data, and enable professionals to focus on judgment, risk assessment, and strategic advisory.
We're expanding our capabilities into **financial statement audits, compilations, Quality of Earnings (QoE), and financial due diligence**, and we're looking for an entrepreneurial CPA to help build and lead this practice.
About the Role
We're hiring a **CPA – Head of Audit, Assurance \& Accounting** to lead three interconnected areas of our business:
- **Audit \& Assurance:** Build and manage our financial statement audit, compilation, and QoE practices, including engagement execution, technical reviews, quality management, and regulatory compliance.
- **Accounting \& Controllership:** Lead our accounting team, oversee financial reporting quality, and serve as a Controller and strategic advisor to U.S. businesses.
- **AI Product Development:** Work directly with our engineering team to build AI\-powered audit and accounting workflows that make financial reporting and assurance more efficient, scalable, and reliable.
This is not a traditional CPA firm role.
You'll have the opportunity to help build an AI\-native audit and assurance practice from the ground up, combining professional expertise, operational leadership, and technology development.
You'll work directly with the founders, manage a distributed accounting team, lead client engagements, and influence the development of our AI platform.
What You'll Do1\. Lead Financial Statement Audits \& Assurance Engagements
- Plan, manage, and execute financial statement audits in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
- Oversee audit planning, materiality assessments, risk identification, internal control evaluations, substantive testing, and completion procedures.
- Develop audit programs, workpapers, testing methodologies, and documentation standards.
- Lead audit fieldwork, review supporting evidence, resolve technical accounting matters, and oversee engagement completion.
- Evaluate financial statements for compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable reporting requirements.
- Manage compilation engagements and related financial reporting deliverables.
- Lead Quality of Earnings engagements, including EBITDA normalization, revenue quality, working capital, cash flow, and financial risk analysis.
- Oversee financial due diligence engagements for acquisitions, investments, and financing transactions.
- Establish quality\-management processes consistent with applicable AICPA standards, peer review requirements, and professional regulations.
- Coordinate engagement reviews, regulatory compliance, and audit report issuance through appropriately authorized professionals.
- Develop a scalable audit and assurance delivery model supported by AI and a distributed professional team.
2\. Manage Accounting Operations \& Act as Controller
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of accountants supporting U.S.\-based businesses.
- Oversee month\-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
- Review financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Serve as a Controller for selected clients, providing financial oversight and management reporting.
- Manage complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, accruals, intercompany transactions, and financial statement adjustments.
- Establish standardized accounting policies, internal controls, and review procedures.
- Improve accounting team productivity, reporting accuracy, and close timelines.
- Collaborate with tax professionals on year\-end financial reporting and compliance.
- Maintain appropriate professional independence and engagement separation between accounting and attest clients.
3\. Build Our AI\-Powered Audit \& Assurance Platform
This is a central part of the role.
You'll work directly with our founders, engineers, and AI team to help build the technology behind a new generation of audit and assurance services.
Responsibilities include
- Help design AI agents for audit planning, financial statement analysis, risk assessment, and transaction testing.
- Translate audit methodologies and professional standards into structured, repeatable AI\-assisted workflows.
- Develop automated testing procedures for general ledgers, trial balances, journal entries, and supporting documentation.
- Build AI\-assisted audit workpapers, evidence collection workflows, exception detection, and analytical procedures.
- Help automate financial statement tie\-outs, reconciliations, variance analysis, and audit documentation.
- Develop AI\-powered QoE workflows for EBITDA adjustments, revenue analysis, working capital, and transaction due diligence.
- Define controls for audit evidence reliability, documentation traceability, AI\-generated conclusions, and human review.
- Collaborate with engineering to test, validate, and continuously improve the audit product.
- *Our vision is to build an AI\-native audit and assurance platform where technology handles repetitive analysis and documentation, while CPAs retain responsibility for professional judgment, skepticism, and engagement quality.**
4\. Build \& Scale the Audit Practice
- Help establish the operational foundation of our audit and assurance business.
- Develop standardized engagement workflows, pricing models, staffing plans, and delivery processes.
- Recruit, train, and supervise audit and accounting professionals.
- Manage engagement budgets, timelines, profitability, and quality.
- Support professional licensing, quality management, and peer review readiness.
- Lead client discussions with founders, CFOs, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders.
- Help expand the practice into additional assurance and advisory offerings as the business grows.
What We're Looking For

- Experience using AI, data analytics, or automation in accounting or auditing.
- Interest in helping build a new assurance practice and technology product.
Why This Role Is Different
- *Build an Audit Practice From the Ground Up**
Help establish and grow a modern audit and assurance practice rather than simply inherit an existing portfolio of engagements.

- *Leadership Across Accounting \& Assurance**
Gain ownership of accounting operations, Controller services, financial statement audits, compilations, and transaction advisory.
