About MapMyCrop

MapMyCrop is an agritech SaaS platform helping farmers optimize yield through data\-driven insights. We're building the operational backbone for India's agriculture sector. As a pre\-Series A/early growth startup, you'll own infrastructure strategy and execution while we scale

  • *The Role**

You’ll be the infrastructure architect and operator for our platform—designing, deploying, and maintaining systems that serve thousands of farmers. You'll work directly with engineering and product, making strategic decisions that directly impact business outcomes. This is a hands\-on role where you'll do the work yourself, not manage others (at least initially)

You’ll wear multiple hats: infrastructure designer, deployment engineer, on\-call responder, security champion, and AWS cost optimizer. You need to be comfortable with ambiguity, move fast, and take ownership end\-to\-end

  • *Core Responsibilities**

· Deployment \& Release Pipeline (Day\-to\-Day)

· Manage GitHub workflows \& CI.CD pipelines( GitHub Actions, or migrate to Gitlab/CircleCI if needed)

· Handle code promotions: dev \-\>staging\-\>production

· Manage artifact storage (Docker registries, S3, etc.)

· Deploy releases with zero\-dowtime when possible; own rollback procedures

· Maintain release notes and deployment runbooks

· Debug pipelines failures and unblock engineers

  • *AWS Infrastructure \& Cloud Operations**

· Design and provision AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, VPC, S3, Lambda, ALB, CloudFront, etc.)

· Implement Infrastructure\-as\-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) for reproducibility

· Manage databases (RDS, Aurora, backups, snapshots, point\-in\-time recovery)

· Optimize cloud costs—right\-sizing instances, reserved instances, storage tiers

· Network architecture: VPCs, security groups, NACLs, VPN access

· Implement secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager, Parameter Store)

· Own disaster recovery planning and testing (RTO/RPO targets)

  • *Monitoring, Logging \& Observability**

· Set up centralized logging (CloudWatch, DataDog, ELK, or similar)

· Build dashboards and alerts for infrastructure health and application metrics

· Implement distributed tracing for debugging production issues

· Establish SLOs/SLIs for platform reliability

· Own on\-call rotation and incident response (initially)

  • *Security \& Compliance**

· Implement security best practices: SSL/TLS, encryption at rest/in\-transit, IAM policies

· Manage access control: AWS IAM, bastion hosts, SSH key rotation

· Run security audits and patch management

· GDPR/data privacy compliance for farmer data (critical for agritech)

· Document security posture and help with customer trust reviews

  • *Operational Excellence**

· Automation: Write scripts to eliminate manual work (Python, Bash, GO)

· Implement automated backups and disaster recovery procedures

· Capacity planning: forecast when you'll hit limits and provision proactively

· Technical documentation: runbooks, architecture diagrams, troubleshooting guides

· Keep systems stable during growth: your reliability is the business's reliability

  • *Collaboration**

· Partner with backend/frontend engineers to understand deployment needs

· Help with local dev environment setup (Docker, Docker Compose, etc.)

· Support product/ops with environment provisioning for testing

· Mentor junior engineers on infrastructure concepts

  • *Required Skills \& Experience**
  • *Must\-Have**

· AWS expertise: 2\+ years hands\-on experience (EC2, RDS, VPC, IAM, Cloud

· CI/CD pipelines: Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar

· Infrastructure\-as\-code: Terraform or CloudFormation (we prefer Terraform)

· Container orchestration: Docker and either Kubernetes or Docker Swarm/ECS

· Linux/Unix: Comfortable in shell, troubleshooting systems, reading logs

· Scripting: Python or Bash for automation

· Git \& Version control: Strong fundamentals (branching, merging, rebasing)

· On\-call experience: Can respond to production incidents calmly and systematically

  • *Nice\-to\-Have (High Signal)**

· Kubernetes: EKS experience or other managed k8s platforms

· Databases: MySQL/PostgreSQL tuning, replication, backup strategies

· Monitoring tools: DataDog, New Relic, Prometheus, or similar

· Security: Experience with SSL certificates, IAM policies, secrets management

· Cost optimization: Track record of reducing cloud spend while maintaining performance

· Startup experience: Have worked in a startup where you wore multiple hats

· Agritech or domain: Bonus if you understand farming or agricultural data

· Go or Rust: For building internal tools

  • *Attributes We’re Looking for**

This hire needs to be a go\-getter. Specificallly

1\. Self\-directed: Identify problems and solve them without hand\-holding. You'll own projects end\-to\-end.

2\. System thinker: Understand how pieces fit together. See interdependencies. Anticipate bottlenecks.

3\. Proactive: Don't wait for things to break. Implement observability, alerting, and safeguards upfront.

4\. Comfortable with ambiguity: We don't have documented runbooks for everything. You'll write them.

5\. Fast learner: New tech emerges constantly. You should enjoy learning and adapting.

6\. Customer\-centric: Remember that downtime affects farmers' livelihoods. Reliability matters.

7\. Collaborative, not siloed: You'll work closely with engineering. Good communication is essential.

8\. Scrappy: In a startup, sometimes you'll hack a solution together before building the perfect one. That's okay.

  • *What We’re Not Looking For**

· Someone who only knows one cloud (AWS knowledge required)

· DevOps engineers waiting to move into management (we're small—this role stays hands\-on)

· People who treat infra as a cost center (we want someone who sees it as a strategic asset)

· Box\-checkers who implement things but don't understand why

  • *Opportunities \& Growth**

· Ownership: You own the entire infrastructure. Your decisions shape how the platform scales.

· Impact: Every hour of uptime directly helps farmers. Meaningful work.

· Scale: We're growing fast. You'll see your infrastructure handle 10x\+ growth while staying reliable.

· Learning: You'll work across the full stack—frontend frameworks, backend services, databases, networking.

· Compensation \& Growth: As we fundraise and grow, this could evolve into an infrastructure team lead or CTO path.

  • *What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)**

1\. Weeks 1\-2: Understand current infrastructure. Document what exists. Identify firefighting needs.

2\. Weeks 3\-4: Make one major improvement (e.g., automate a manual process, reduce deploy time by 50%).

3\. Weeks 5\-12: Implement monitoring/alerting. Strengthen backups. Build IaC for main components. Reduce on\-call alert noise.

4\. Ongoing: Be on\-call successfully. Respond to incidents calmly. Communicate transparently with team.

  • *Interview Process**

1\. Phone screen (30m): Culture fit, motivation, baseline skills

2\. Technical round(90m): AWS architecture, design, troubleshooting scenarios

3\. Practical exercise (take\-home, 2\-3h): Deploy a service, write infrastructure code

4\. Founder/Management chat(30m): Vision, growth, role expectation

5\. Reference \& offer

  • *Why MapMyCrop?**

Agriculture is one of the world's largest industries, yet farmers often have limited access to data and insights. We're building tools that unlock productivity, sustainability, and profitability. Your infrastructure directly enables that. It's not "another SaaS"—it's meaningful technology for a critical sector.
