Job Purpose

To manage and control all laboratory operations in the DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) Plant, ensuring accurate and timely testing of raw materials, process samples, and finished products while maintaining quality standards, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1\. Laboratory Management

• Lead and supervise all laboratory activities.
• Ensure accurate and timely chemical and physical analysis of raw materials, coal, iron ore, dolomite, limestone, DRI, and by\-products.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and calibration schedules.
• Ensure availability of laboratory chemicals, consumables, and reference standards.

2\. Quality Control

• Monitor the quality of incoming raw materials and finished DRI products.
• Verify test results and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports.
• Investigate quality deviations and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

3\. Process Monitoring

• Analyze process samples at various production stages.
• Coordinate with Production and Process departments to optimize metallization, Fe content, carbon content, and gangue levels.
• Provide technical recommendations for process improvement.

4\. Documentation \& Compliance

• Maintain laboratory records, SOPs, test reports, and calibration certificates.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and applicable quality management systems.
• Support internal and external quality audits.

5\. Team Management

• Supervise laboratory chemists, analysts, and technicians.
• Allocate work shifts and responsibilities.
• Conduct training and competency development programs.
• Monitor employee performance and discipline.

6\. Safety \& Environment

• Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory chemicals.
• Enforce PPE usage and laboratory safety practices.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and hazardous waste management.

7\. Coordination

• Coordinate with Production, Purchase, Stores, Maintenance, and Dispatch departments.
• Assist management during customer inspections and quality audits.
• Support troubleshooting related to product quality issues.

• Accuracy of laboratory test results.
• Timely reporting of analysis.
• Product quality compliance rate.
• Calibration compliance (100%).
• Reduction in testing errors and rework.
• Laboratory equipment uptime.
• Audit compliance score.
• Safety performance (Zero Lost Time Injury).
• Training completion of laboratory personnel.

Qualification

• **Education:** B.Sc./M.Sc. (Chemistry) or B.Tech./M.Tech. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
• **Experience:** 10–15 years of experience in a DRI, Steel, or Sponge Iron Plant, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of DRI manufacturing process.
• Chemical analysis and laboratory testing techniques.
• Spectrometer, XRF, Carbon \& Sulphur Analyzer, Moisture Analyzer, and other laboratory instruments.
• ISO Quality Management Systems.
• Statistical analysis and report preparation.
• MS Excel, MS Office, and ERP systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem\-solving skills.

Working Conditions

• Based in a DRI plant laboratory.
• May require shift support during emergencies or production issues.
• Exposure to industrial environment and laboratory chemicals while following prescribed safety measures.

Authority

• Approve laboratory test reports.
• Allocate laboratory manpower and work schedules.
• Recommend acceptance or rejection of raw materials based on quality parameters.
• Recommend procurement of laboratory equipment and consumables.
• Initiate corrective actions for quality\-related issues.

This JD is suitable for a **Head of Laboratory** responsible for quality assurance and laboratory operations in a **100–500 TPD DRI/Sponge Iron Plant**.

Pay: ₹35,000\.00 \- ₹50,000\.00 per month
