Job Description

We are looking for an experienced **PostgreSQL DBA / Database Engineer** with 8\+ years of experience in database administration, cloud database management, performance optimization, and production support.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands\-on expertise in **PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS Cloud Services, database migrations, high availability, disaster recovery, and database performance tuning**.

This role involves managing mission\-critical production databases, ensuring database security, availability, performance, and reliability, and implementing automation solutions to improve database operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, maintain, and upgrade PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Manage and support **Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL** database environments.
• Perform database installation, configuration, patching, version upgrades, and maintenance activities.
• Plan and execute database migrations with minimal business disruption.
• Implement and manage database backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Configure and maintain high availability, database failover, and replication strategies.
• Monitor and optimize database performance through query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and execution plan analysis.
• Identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks, slow\-running queries, locking issues, and production incidents.
• Manage database monitoring, security, and operational activities using AWS CloudWatch, IAM, KMS, AWS Backup, and Secrets Manager.
• Develop automation scripts using Shell Scripting and Python to streamline database administration tasks.
• Work with Linux/Unix environments for database operations, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Implement database security, access controls, encryption, and operational best practices.
• Coordinate with application, DevOps, infrastructure, and cloud engineering teams to resolve database\-related issues.
• Support large\-scale, high\-availability production database environments.
• Maintain database documentation, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and disaster recovery processes.
• Independently investigate complex database issues and implement effective solutions.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• **8\+ years of relevant experience** in PostgreSQL Database Administration or Database Engineering.
• Strong hands\-on expertise in PostgreSQL administration, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance.
• Experience with **Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL**.
• Strong knowledge of database migrations, backup and recovery, replication, high availability, failover, and disaster recovery.
• Expertise in SQL query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and database performance tuning.
• Experience troubleshooting production database issues, performance bottlenecks, and connectivity problems.
• Hands\-on knowledge of AWS services, including:
• AWS CloudWatch
• AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM)
• AWS Key Management Service (KMS)
• AWS Backup
• AWS Secrets Manager
• Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments.
• Experience in Shell Scripting and Python\-based database automation.
• Understanding of database security, access management, encryption, and operational best practices.
• Ability to independently manage database operations and troubleshoot complex production incidents.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem\-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting large\-scale, business\-critical production databases.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Experience with database monitoring and observability tools such as:
• Prometheus
• Alertmanager
• Grafana
• AWS CloudWatch Database Insights
• Experience optimizing cloud database costs, performance, and scalability.
• Exposure to enterprise cloud migration and database modernization projects.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a technically strong **PostgreSQL DBA / AWS Database Engineer** who can independently manage complex production database environments.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate

• Extensive PostgreSQL database administration and troubleshooting experience.
• Strong hands\-on experience with AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Proven ability to perform database migrations, upgrades, and performance tuning.
• Expertise in high availability, replication, failover, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Experience in Python and Shell Scripting automation.
• Strong production support and incident resolution capabilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• *Important:** This is a hands\-on PostgreSQL Database Engineering position. Candidates must have practical experience administering PostgreSQL databases in AWS cloud environments. Experience limited to SQL development or application\-level database queries will not be sufficient.
