Role Summary

The Product Development Specialist will lead the new product development (NPD) cycle for valves and pipes, from concept and material selection through prototyping, testing, and commercial launch. The role needs a blend of mechanical design, chemical and material science, and insulation technology knowledge to deliver products that perform reliably in demanding thermal, chemical, and pressure conditions.

Key ResponsibilitiesNew Product Development

• Lead the end\-to\-end NPD process: market research, concept design, feasibility study, prototyping, validation, and launch.
• Develop new valve and pipe products and improve existing designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
• Prepare product specifications, technical drawings, BOMs, and design documentation.
• Run design reviews and apply DFMEA, DFM/DFA, and stage\-gate processes.

Materials and Chemical Engineering

• Select suitable metals, alloys, polymers, elastomers, seals, and coatings based on media compatibility, corrosion resistance, temperature, and pressure.
• Evaluate chemical compatibility and material degradation in aggressive service conditions.
• Research and qualify new materials and suppliers.

Insulation Technology

• Evaluate and apply insulation materials (e.g., PUF, mineral wool, aerogel, ceramic fibre, elastomeric foam) for thermal efficiency, condensation control, and safety.
• Design insulated and jacketed valve and pipe solutions for hot and cold service.
• Test and validate thermal performance, durability, and fire and moisture resistance.

Testing, Quality, and Compliance

• Plan and supervise prototype testing, including pressure, leakage, endurance, flow, and thermal tests.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards such as API, ASME, ASTM, ISO, BS, IS, and EN.
• Support certification, third\-party inspections, and customer approvals.
• Analyse test failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Cross\-Functional Collaboration

• Work with production, quality, procurement, sales, and marketing to ensure smooth transition from development to manufacturing.
• Provide technical support to sales teams and customers, including custom solutions.
• Coordinate with vendors and tooling suppliers for pattern, die, and tooling development.
• Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to meet target costs.

Continuous Improvement

• Track industry trends, competitor products, and emerging technologies.
• Maintain product documentation, technical datasheets, and catalogues.
• Contribute to patents, IP protection, and innovation initiatives where applicable.

Eligibility and QualificationsEducation

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science (M.Tech preferred).

Experience

• 3\+ years in product development or R\&D in valves, pipes, fittings, or flow\-control equipment
• Proven experience in at least one full NPD cycle from concept to commercial production.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of valve types (gate, globe, ball, butterfly, check, etc.) and piping systems.
• Understanding of material science, corrosion, and chemical compatibility.
• Working knowledge of insulation materials and thermal management.
• Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo
• Familiarity with international standards

Soft Skills

• Analytical and problem\-solving mindset.
• Strong project management and documentation skills.
• Good communication and cross\-team coordination.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Preferred (Not Mandatory)

• Experience with polymer or plastic piping (PVC, CPVC, HDPE, PPR, etc.).
• Exposure to FMEA, Six Sigma, or Lean methodologies.
• Patent or design registration experience.
