Domain: Banking (Good to Have)

Job Summary

We are looking for a hands\-on Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with strong expertise in Playwright using Python. The candidate will be responsible for the complete testing lifecycle, including requirement analysis, test strategy and design, test execution, automation feasibility assessment, framework design and development from scratch, automation scripting, and maintenance.

The ideal candidate should combine strong testing fundamentals with programming and automation engineering skills. Excellent communication is mandatory, as the role requires close collaboration with client stakeholders and cross\-functional teams. Banking domain experience is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

1\. Requirement Analysis and Test Design

Analyze business and technical requirements to identify test scenarios, risks, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.

Participate in requirement walkthroughs and clarification sessions with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders.

Prepare test scenarios, test cases, test data, and traceability matrices.

Identify functional, negative, boundary, regression, integration, and end\-to\-end test scenarios.

Define test coverage and ensure requirements are adequately validated.

2\. Test Strategy and Automation Feasibility

Assess the feasibility of automating test scenarios based on business value, complexity, stability, reusability, and maintenance effort.

Identify scenarios suitable for automation and those that should remain manual.

Define automation scope, priorities, approach, and execution strategy.

Estimate automation effort and identify risks, dependencies, and required test environments.

3\. Automation Framework Design and Development

Design and develop a scalable, maintainable, and reusable test automation framework from scratch using Playwright with Python.

Define framework architecture, coding standards, folder structure, reusable utilities, configuration management, and test data handling.

Implement fixtures, page object models or other suitable design patterns, assertions, logging, reporting, and exception handling.

Develop reusable components for browser handling, authentication, test setup, teardown, and environment configuration.

Ensure the framework supports maintainability, scalability, parallel execution, and efficient debugging.

4\. Automation Scripting and Execution

Develop, execute, debug, and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright and Python.

Automate functional, regression, smoke, integration, and end\-to\-end test scenarios.

Handle dynamic web elements, synchronization, browser contexts, multiple tabs, frames, and complex user interactions.

Analyze failed test executions, distinguish application defects from automation issues, and troubleshoot failures.

Maintain automation scripts as applications and requirements evolve.

Generate execution reports, analyze results, and communicate defects and test status.

5\. API, Database, and CI/CD Testing

Perform API testing and validate backend services and integrations.

Use tools such as Postman or Python\-based API libraries for API validation.

Perform database validation using SQL wherever required.

Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.

Use Git or equivalent version control tools for source code management.

Contribute to continuous testing and quality engineering practices.

6\. Defect Management and Stakeholder Communication

Log, track, prioritize, and retest defects using defect management tools.

Collaborate with development teams to investigate and resolve issues.

Provide clear updates on testing progress, risks, automation coverage, and release readiness.

Participate in test reviews, code reviews, sprint ceremonies, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Mandatory Technical Skills

4–6 years of overall experience in software testing and automation engineering.

Strong hands\-on experience in Playwright with Python.

Strong Python programming skills, including object\-oriented programming, functions, classes, exception handling, and reusable code development.

Proven experience designing and developing an automation framework from scratch.

Strong understanding of requirement analysis, test design, test planning, execution, defect management, and the complete software testing lifecycle.

Experience evaluating automation feasibility and defining automation scope.

Hands\-on experience with Playwright locators, assertions, fixtures, waits, browser contexts, debugging, and execution reporting.

Understanding of automation design patterns, maintainability, test data management, and configuration handling.

Knowledge of API testing, SQL, Git, and CI/CD concepts.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Willingness to travel to the Philippines for a few weeks during the initial project phase.

Good to Have

Banking or Financial Services domain experience.

Exposure to core banking, digital banking, payments, lending, or financial transaction workflows.

Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery and Jira.

Experience with parallel test execution and cross\-browser testing.

Familiarity with performance testing or security testing concepts.
