SENIOR BACKEND ENGINEER
COUNTRY
Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico
FORMAT
Remote
Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a **Senior Back End Engineer with SNMP and NETCONF** for a full\-time position (40 hours per week). Our client is a quantum computing hardware and software company.
You'll design and build the data ingestion stack that feeds the agentic framework. You will own the edge collector that runs on a Linux appliance close to the customer's network: protocol integrations, normalization, light pre\-processing, and the contracts that hand telemetry off to the upstream pipeline. It is the role of those who decide what the rest of the platform sees and how quickly.
REQUIREMENTS
- 10\+ years of experience in building production backend or systems software, with substantial time on network\-adjacent products.
- Hands\-on, production experience with SNMP, NETCONF, and gRPC/ gNMI. You have shipped a collector or agent that talks to real network devices, not a lab prototype.
- In\-depth understanding of networking from L1 through L3 — enough to reason about what a piece of telemetry actually means on the wire.
- Strong knowledge of Go or Rust in a production environment. You have written and shipped systems code in at least one of them; the other can be picked up on the job.
+ Understanding of Linux systems programming: processes, sockets, I/O, performance tuning.
- Knowledge of edge or embedded deployment constraints: footprint, latency, OTA updates, and field debuggability.
- Clear written communication. You will be specifying schemas and protocols with stakeholders who are not in the code with you.
- Hands\-on experience with networking across load balancers and/or WebSockets; running production workloads in Kubernetes at scale; containerized distributed systems; Helm charts.
NICE TO HAVE
- Knowledge of C\+\+ for performance\-critical paths in the collector.
- Exposure to crypto library (OpenSSL, BoringSSL, or post\-quantum libraries such as liboqs).
- Prior experience with appliance, NFV, or CPE\-style products with field deployment scars to show for it.
- Familiarity with network security telemetry sources and SLO / SLI definition.
- Experience working in a regulated customer environment (federal, finance, telco).
HOW WE WILL EVALUATE
- Live design exercise: collector architecture for a mixed SNMP \+ gNMI device fleet under a stated throughput and footprint budget.
- Code review of a Go or Rust sample (yours or ours) focused on concurrency, error handling, and protocol parsing.
- Conversation with the Solution Architect on integration boundaries with the Detection Layer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement the collector that pulls network and device telemetry from customer environments over SNMP, NETCONF, and gRPC / gNMI.
- Normalize multi\-vendor telemetry into the platform's internal event schema; co\-own these schemas with the Senior Agentic AI Engineer so downstream layers do not have to retrofit them.
- Build the ingest path end\-to\-end: collectors, light processors, anonymization hooks, and the streaming hand\-off to the data backbone (Kafka / Pub/Sub class systems).
- Make the appliance production\-grade: resource budgets, back\-pressure, OTA update flow, observability, and graceful degradation when the uplink is slow or absent.
- Integrate crypto\-agility hooks at the edge so QKD and PQC key material can flow through without protocol\-level rewrites later.
- Work directly with the Network Security \& Crypto SME on L1–L3 visibility, with the ML Anomaly Detection engineer on training\-data fidelity, and with the Cloud / MLOps engineer on deployment.
- Carry the role through Phase 1 commitments: collector live on the friendly\-customer appliance, normalized telemetry feeding the Detection Layer, validated by the QA harness.
