A Solar Installation Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and installing photovoltaic (PV) systems that deliver solar power to homes, businesses, and industrial facilities. The role covers activities from system sizing and configuration evaluation through commissioning of the project.
- *Electrical Design and Procurement**
- Coordinate with the design team to complete all electrical engineering drawings
- Manage technology selection, system configuration, electrical connection, and distribution systems
- Coordinate installation of power conditioning systems for solar power plants
- Create electrical single\-line diagrams, panel schedules, and connection diagrams using CAD software
- *Erection \& Commissioning**
- Supervise installation of solar panels, inverters, mounting structures, and equipment on site
- Take measurements and consider unique site features (roof slope, structural features) affecting installation
- Cut components for brackets and secure panels in place
- Waterproof outside components to protect equipment
- Connect solar systems to building's electrical system and ensure equipment works correctly
- Conduct site inspections and tests to verify system operates correctly and efficiently
- Complete testing and commissioning of the solar power system
- Manage complete project through installation, testing, and commissioning
- Coordinate with electrical contractors and technical staff
- Monitor project progress to ensure on\-time, on\-budget completion
- Maintain engineering records, lists, and reports for compliance with client schedules and budgets
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures and quality/safety standards
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on existing solar installations
- Coordinate between internal teams: design, civil engineering, and O\&M
- Work with company engineers and program managers to meet customer needs
- Liaise with customers and stakeholders
- Explain installation process to customers and ensure they understand the system
- *Required Qualifications**
- Basic knowledge of electrical engineering, power distribution, and transmission
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field
- Understanding of PV systems, inverters, and mounting structures
- CAD software proficiency for electrical design
- 1–5 years of experience in solar installation or renewable energy projects (preferred)
- Strong coordination and project management skills
- Ability to work on\-site and travel to installation locations
- Knowledge of electrical safety regulations and company policies
- Problem\-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Customer communication and technical explanation skills
