The primary purpose of this role is to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) platform that supports a wide array of machine learning (ML) models, including sophisticated deep learning (DL) frameworks and large language models (LLMs). The Sr AI Engineer will work on scaling model performance, building essential tools and frameworks, and managing compute and storage resources. This role requires close collaboration with cross\-functional teams to identify new opportunities leveraging AI platform capabilities across different domains to accelerate AI\-infused product development.
The AI Platform team is a multidisciplinary group of highly skilled AI Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, and Full\-Stack Developers dedicated to building enterprise\-scale AI solutions at Lowe’s. The team develops and operates the core AI platform that enables rapid development, deployment, and governance of AI applications across the organization.
We are seeking a highly skilled **AI Engineer** with strong expertise in **Python, FastAPI, and AI/ML application development** to design, build, and deploy scalable, production\-grade AI solutions. The ideal candidate will have hands\-on experience integrating machine learning models and Large Language Models (LLMs) into enterprise applications, while ensuring reliability, security, performance, and maintainability.
- *Roles \& Responsibilities**
- Translate user stories and functional specifications into **logical program designs, modular code, and scalable software solutions** within an agile development environment.
- Design and build **production\-grade AI/ML applications** using **Python frameworks such as FastAPI**, ensuring reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Stay current with **AI/ML and LLM advancements**, proactively recommending improvements to systems, workflows, and architectures.
- *Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, math, or related field or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education requirement, if applicable
- 4 years of experience in ML platform engineering, data, and MLOps tools, and ML frameworks
- 3 years of experience working with GPU and CPU infrastructure, optimizing ML models for performance
- 3 years of programming language experience
- *Primary Skills (must have)**
- **Expertise in Python** with strong hands\-on experience in **FastAPI** for building **production\-grade, scalable backend applications**.
- Strong understanding of **software architecture, data structures, and data modeling**.
- Proven experience in AI Engineering, including model deployment, monitoring, CI/CD, and lifecycle management.
- Experience integrating **AI/ML and Large Language Models (LLMs)** into real\-world, scalable systems.
- Ability to write **robust, testable, and maintainable code** in **Python.**
- Strong experience designing and delivering **secure, scalable, and high\-availability systems**.
- Knowledge of **API design, microservices, and cloud\-native architectures**.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with **cross\-functional teams**.
- Excellent **problem\-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.**
- *Secondary Skills (desired)**
- Experience with **LLM frameworks**, prompt engineering, or retrieval\-augmented generation (RAG).
- Exposure to **distributed systems, event\-driven architectures, or data streaming**.
- Knowledge of **security best practices** for AI/ML systems.
