We are seeking a highly organized, quality\-focused, and technology\-aware Editorial Office Team Leader to oversee editorial operations for a portfolio of medical and scientific journals. This role combines editorial workflow leadership, people management, publication ethics oversight and modern publishing technology expertise.
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in scholarly publishing, peer review management, publication ethics, plagiarism screening and emerging challenges in academic publishing including AI\-generated content detection, paper mills, image manipulation concerns and research integrity investigations.
The Team Lead Editorial Office Coordination will lead a team responsible for ensuring efficient manuscript processing, maintaining editorial quality standards, supporting editors and reviewers and safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the journals.
- *Roles \& Responsibilities**

- *Editorial workflow management**
- Manage the complete manuscript lifecycle from submission to export to production.
- Oversee manuscript triage, peer\-review coordination, revisions, and editorial communications.
- Ensure all manuscripts meet journal formatting, reporting, ethical, and scientific quality standards before peer review.
- Monitor turnaround times and ensure achievement of editorial KPIs and SLAs.
Coordinate with Editors\-in\-Chief, Associate Editors, Editorial Board Members, reviewers, and production teams.
- Ensure timely handling of accepted manuscripts for production and publication.
- *Team leadership \& staff development**
- Lead, mentor and supervise a team of 4\-5 experienced editorial coordinators.
Allocate workload effectively across the editorial office team.
- Communicate expected behaviors, service standards and KPIs aligned with established benchmarks.
- Manage performance related queries, feedback, and escalations.
- Analyze performance data using self\-service reports and insights from editorial data analysts to drive continuous improvement.
- Conduct onboarding and continuous training for editorial staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development initiatives.
- *Research integrity \& publication ethics**
- Ensure compliance with international publication ethics standards and guidelines from organizations such as:
Committee on Publication Ethics
- Conduct editorial integrity checks before peer review and acceptance.
- Handle ethical cases including, plagiarism, duplicate publication, authorship disputes, image manipulation, etc.
- Escalate high\-risk ethical concerns to journal leadership and publishers where necessary.
- Maintain documentation and audit trails for integrity investigations.
- The candidate must demonstrate strong awareness of emerging threats and technologies impacting scholarly publishing.
- Conduct advanced plagiarism and similarity assessments using industry\-standard tools.
- Identify potential paraphrasing manipulation and AI\-assisted plagiarism.
- Review suspicious image alterations, duplicated figures, and manipulated graphical content.
- Collaborate with R\&I teams and editors on fraud investigations.
- Train editorial staff on identifying fraudulent or manipulated submissions.
- *Technology \& editorial systems management**
- Manage and optimize editorial management systems such as ScholarOne, Editorial Manager, or similar platforms.
- Recommend workflow automation and AI\-assisted editorial tools where appropriate.
- Maintain knowledge of AI\-assisted editorial technologies, plagiarism detection systems, manuscript screening tools etc.
- Collaborate with IT, production and publishing operations teams to improve workflow efficiency.
- Generate editorial reports, workflow analytics and operational insights for management.
- *Required Background \& skills:**

- Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Publishing, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in academic, scientific, STM, or medical publishing.
- Minimum 2\-3 years of team leadership or supervisory experience.
Strong knowledge of peer review workflows and editorial office operations.
- Demonstrated experience handling publication ethics and research integrity cases.
- Familiarity with AI\-generated content concerns and paper mill detection practices.
- Experience with plagiarism detection software such as:
