The Technical Advisor serves as the technical expert within the workshop and is responsible for diagnosing complex vehicle problems, providing technical guidance to technicians and supervisors, ensuring quality repairs, reducing repeat repairs, and maintaining compliance with Ashok Leyland service standards. The role acts as a bridge between the workshop team and technical support for advanced troubleshooting and technical escalations.
Key Roles \& Responsibilities
1\. Advanced Technical Diagnosis
- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, and BS\-VI\-related vehicle issues.
- Analyze recurring failures and identify root causes.
- Support technicians in resolving difficult repair cases.
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting using OEM diagnostic tools and software.
- Ensure accurate fault identification before repair commencement.
2\. Technical Support to Workshop Team
- Provide technical guidance to workshop supervisors, service advisors, and technicians.
- Assist in repair planning and job allocation for critical vehicles.
- Recommend corrective actions for difficult service cases.
- Support technicians in understanding repair procedures and technical bulletins.
- Mentor junior technicians and develop technical competencies.
3\. Quality Control \& First\-Time\- Right Repairs
- Ensure repairs are completed according to Ashok Leyland standards.
- Verify repair quality before vehicle delivery.
- Minimize repeat repairs and comeback jobs.
- Conduct quality inspections of completed work.
- Monitor workshop quality KPIs and recommend improvements.
4\. Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with Ashok Leyland Regional Service Engineers and Technical Support Teams.
- Escalate unresolved technical issues.
- Implement service campaigns, recalls, and technical updates.
- Attend technical meetings, training programs, and workshops.
- Communicate technical updates and service advisories to workshop personnel.
5\. Vehicle Inspection \& Failure Analysis
- Conduct technical inspections of breakdown and accident vehicles.

- Engine.
- Gearbox.
- Clutch.
- Differential.
- Axle Assemblies.
- Electrical Systems.
- Air Brake Systems.
- Emission Control Systems.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and recommendations.
6\. Warranty Technical Validation
- Verify technical authenticity of warranty\-related failures.
- Support Warranty Manager in claim validation.
- Assist in preparing technical reports required for warranty approval.
- Ensure defective parts are analyzed and documented properly.
- Participate in warranty audits and investigations.
7\. Training \& Skill Development
- Conduct regular technical training sessions.
- Identify skill gaps among technicians.
- Prepare development plans for workshop staff.
- Train technicians on new Ashok Leyland products and technologies.
- Promote safety and best repair practices.
8\. Breakdown \& Field Service Support
- Assist in resolving major fleet breakdown cases.
- Provide remote and on\-site technical support when required.
- Support fleet customers in minimizing vehicle downtime.
- Coordinate with field service teams during emergency situations.
9\. Process Improvement \& Technical Documentation
- Maintain records of recurring failures and technical solutions.
- Develop troubleshooting guides and best practices.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance repair quality and productivity.
- Ensure technical records are maintained accurately.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Automobile Engineering / Mechanical Engineering
- B.E. / B.Tech in Automobile or Mechanical Engineering
Preferred Certifications
- Ashok Leyland Technical Certification Programs.
- BS\-VI Diagnostics Certification.
- Automotive Electronics Certification.
- Advanced Engine Diagnostics Certification.
- Service Training Programs.
Required Experience
Total Experience: 4–6 Years.
Relevant Workshop Experience: Minimum 3 Years.
Technical Diagnostic Experience: Minimum 3 Years.
- Industry: Commercial Vehicles / Heavy Vehicles.
- Authorized dealership (Ashok Leyland) experience preferred.
