JOB DESCRIPTION Design Engineer – Cable Plug Tool \& Die

1\. Job Purpose

To design, develop, modify and optimize plugs, dies, tooling and associated components used in cable and wire manufacturing processes. The role involves developing accurate tooling designs, ensuring dimensional accuracy, improving production efficiency, reducing tooling downtime and supporting manufacturing and quality teams.

2\. Key Responsibilities

• *A. Tool \& Die Design**

• Design and develop plugs, dies, drawing dies, extrusion tooling and other cable manufacturing tools as per product and process requirements.
• Prepare 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
• Design tooling components considering material selection, tolerances, surface finish and manufacturing feasibility.
• Develop tooling designs for different cable sizes, specifications and production requirements.
• Modify existing tooling designs to improve performance and resolve production issues.

• *B. Product Development \& Engineering**

• Study technical specifications, product drawings and customer requirements.
• Calculate and establish critical tooling dimensions, clearances and tolerances.
• Develop new tooling concepts and support prototype development and trials.
• Ensure tooling designs meet dimensional, functional and quality requirements.

• *C. Manufacturing \& Tool Room Support**

• Coordinate with tool room, machining and production teams for tooling manufacturing and development.
• Provide technical support during tooling trials and production commissioning.
• Analyze tooling failures, wear, dimensional deviations and production\-related problems.
• Recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve tool life and performance.

• *D. Process Improvement**

• Identify opportunities to reduce tooling costs, manufacturing time and rejection rates.
• Improve tooling life through design optimization and appropriate material selection.
• Maintain tooling drawings, design records, revision history and technical documentation.
• Support continuous improvement activities.

3\. Technical Skills Required

• Good knowledge of tool and die design principles.
• Understanding of cable manufacturing processes, particularly wire drawing and extrusion.
• Knowledge of plug and die geometry, clearances, tolerances and surface finish.
• Knowledge of tool steels, carbide materials, heat treatment and wear resistance.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD\&T.
• Knowledge of machining processes such as CNC turning, milling, grinding and EDM.
• Good understanding of manufacturing feasibility and tooling development.

4\. Software Skills

• AutoCAD – 2D drafting.
• SolidWorks / Creo / CATIA – 3D modelling and assembly design.
• MS Excel – Technical calculations and documentation.

5\. Educational Qualification

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Tool \& Die Engineering.

6\. Experience

• 2–5 years of experience in tool and die design, preferably in cable, wire, extrusion or related manufacturing industries.
• Experience in plug and die development, tooling trials and troubleshooting will be preferred.

• Reduction in tooling\-related production downtime.

• Reduction in tooling development lead time.
• Reduction in tooling\-related rejection and rework.
• On\-time completion of new tooling development projects.

Pay: ₹75,000\.00 \- ₹150,000\.00 per month
