Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer (HT Licence Holder) is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) electrical systems in a steel manufacturing plant. The role ensures uninterrupted power supply to production units, utility systems, rolling mills, furnaces, and auxiliary equipment while maintaining compliance with statutory regulations, safety standards, and plant operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain HT/LT electrical distribution systems, substations, and switchyards.
- Ensure reliable power supply to steel plant facilities, including furnaces, rolling mills, utility systems, and material handling equipment.
- Supervise preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Monitor and maintain transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protection relays, and motor control centers (MCCs).
- Troubleshoot electrical faults and coordinate corrective actions to minimize production downtime.
- Conduct root cause analysis of electrical failures and implement reliability improvements.
- Supervise shutdown maintenance activities and major electrical overhauls.
- Monitor electrical load management, power factor, and energy consumption.
- Ensure proper operation of generators, synchronization panels, capacitor banks, and UPS systems.
- Maintain electrical documentation, single\-line diagrams, maintenance records, and statutory reports.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and permit\-to\-work procedures.
- Coordinate with electricity distribution companies and regulatory authorities regarding power supply and licensing requirements.
- Participate in electrical system upgrades, modernization projects, and plant expansion activities.
- Lead and supervise electricians, technicians, and contractor personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Valid HT Electrical Licence issued by the relevant state electrical licensing authority.
- Knowledge of industrial power distribution systems and electrical maintenance practices.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and single\-line diagrams.
- Understanding of electrical protection systems, motors, drives, and power quality management.
Preferred Experience
- 3–8 years of experience in a steel plant, power plant, ferroalloy plant, cement plant, or other heavy industrial facility.
- Experience with induction furnaces, electric arc furnaces (EAF), rolling mills, billet casting units, and utility systems.
- Familiarity with PLC, SCADA, VFDs, and industrial automation systems.
