- *Summary of the position**
The Head of Mechanical Engineering is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the overall Mechanical Engineering function across the organization. The role provides direction, governance, and technical leadership across key business areas including Power, Transmission \& Distribution (T\&D), Overhead Line (OHL), CAD Design, and Engineering Project Delivery.
This position will lead the engineering strategy, operational excellence, technical capability, resource planning, and business growth initiatives for the Mechanical Engineering division. The role ensures the delivery of high\-quality engineering solutions, compliance with industry standards, client satisfaction, and continuous improvement across all engineering operations.
As a senior leadership role, the Head of Mechanical Engineering will work closely with business leaders, clients, and project teams to align engineering performance with organizational goals, commercial success, and long\-term growth.
- Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for the Mechanical Engineering function across the organization.
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across Mechanical Design, OHL, Transmission \& Distribution (T\&D), Power, and CAD delivery functions.
- Define and implement engineering strategies, standards, and best practices to drive operational excellence and business growth.
- Ensure high\-quality engineering delivery across projects, including design studies, technical reviews, calculations, reports, drawings, and construction support.
- Establish governance frameworks for technical quality, compliance, design control, and engineering assurance.
- Drive innovation, digital transformation, and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and design operations.
- Oversee engineering resource planning, workforce capability development, succession planning, and team performance management.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, engineering codes, quality standards, and client specifications across all projects.
- Support commercial growth by contributing to client engagement, technical proposals, bid support, and strategic business development initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and senior internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and long\-term partnerships.
- Lead risk identification, technical decision\-making, and problem resolution across complex engineering projects.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables are completed within agreed timelines, budgets, and contractual obligations.
- Promote a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence across the engineering teams.
- *Skills and Experience \| Essential**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 15\+ years of progressive experience in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design, or Project Delivery within Power, T\&D, Infrastructure, EPC, or Engineering Consultancy sectors.
- Minimum 7\+ years of leadership experience managing large engineering teams and leading engineering functions at a senior level.
- Strong experience across Mechanical Engineering, Power Projects, Transmission \& Distribution (T\&D), and Overhead Line (OHL) systems.
- Proven track record in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing high\-value engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of engineering governance, technical quality assurance, project delivery, and construction support.
- Working knowledge of CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and engineering design tools including exposure to PLS CADD / Tower.
- Strong understanding of HSE requirements, CDM regulations, and safety\-by\-design principles.
- Excellent strategic planning, stakeholder management, and decision\-making capabilities.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience supporting business development and client management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, or Business Management.
- Professional certifications in Project Management, Quality Management, or Safety Management.
- Experience managing global engineering delivery teams and international projects.
- Exposure to digital engineering transformation, automation, and innovation\-led engineering solutions.
- IOSH Managing Safely, CDM Awareness, Environmental and Sustainability certifications.
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional recognition.
