Purchase Engineer – Job Description
Strategi Automation Solutions Pvt Ltd is looking for a skilled and proactive Purchase Engineer to manage procurement activities for mechanical components, bought\-out items, fabrication materials, and vendor coordination for automation and engineering projects.
The candidate should possess strong knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes, sourcing strategies, vendor development, negotiation, and timely procurement planning to support production schedules and project execution.
Key Responsibilities
\- Handle end\-to\-end purchase activities for mechanical items, bought\-out components, fabrication materials, pneumatic items, hardware, and industrial consumables.
\- Identify, evaluate, and develop vendors based on quality, delivery capability, pricing, and technical competency.
\- Understand engineering drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), specifications, and manufacturing requirements for procurement planning.
\- Conduct vendor visits for capability assessment, quality evaluation, process understanding, and relationship management.
\- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and commercial conditions with suppliers.
\- Prepare and release Purchase Orders (POs) and ensure proper follow\-up until material receipt.
\- Coordinate with production, design, stores, and project teams to ensure timely availability of materials at the factory.
\- Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
\- Maintain procurement records, vendor databases, quotations, comparative statements, and purchase documentation.
\- Ensure cost optimization without compromising quality and delivery timelines.
\- Support inventory control by balancing stock availability and procurement lead times.
\- Resolve supplier\-related issues including delays, quality concerns, and shortages.
Required Skills \& Competencies
\- Strong knowledge of mechanical components and manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, sheet metal, welding, casting, and assembly.
\- Experience in industrial procurement and vendor management.
\- Ability to read mechanical drawings and technical specifications.
\- Good negotiation and communication skills.
\- Knowledge of ERP systems, MS Excel, and procurement documentation.
\- Strong coordination and follow\-up skills.
\- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and cost awareness
Education
\- B.E / B.Tech / diploma in Mechanical Engineering
\- Additional certifications in Supply Chain / Procurement will be an advantage.
