*ROLE DESCRIPTION** Function: Engineering Sub Function: Civil engineering Role: Quantity Surveyor (Civil Engineering) Location: Site / Office Designation: Quantity surveyor Reporting to: Project Manager / Head **Purpose of the Role:** * The Quantity Surveyor (Civil Engineering) is responsible for managing all aspects related to the costs and financial aspects of civil engineering projects. This includes cost estimation, cost control, budgeting, procurement, and contract management. * The role ensures that projects are completed within budget, on time, and to the required quality standards. * The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to manage project costs and mitigate financial risks. **Key Responsibilities:** **Cost Estimation \& Budgeting:** * Prepare accurate cost estimates and budgets for civil engineering projects, considering materials, labor, equipment, and other associated costs. * Analyze project drawings and specifications to prepare detailed cost plans and cost breakdowns. * Conduct feasibility studies and cost comparisons for various construction methods and materials to ensure cost\-effectiveness. * Review and update cost estimates as projects progress, accounting for any design changes or unforeseen issues. * Provide cost advice and recommendations to the project team during the pre\-construction and construction phases. **Cost Control \& Financial Monitoring:** * Monitor project expenditures to ensure that costs are controlled and that spending remains within the approved budget. * Track and report on project financial performance, including providing regular updates to project managers and senior management. * Prepare monthly financial reports that detail actual vs. budgeted costs, cost forecasts, and any financial variances. * Investigate discrepancies in project costs and implement corrective actions to address any budget overruns. * Assist in managing project cash flows and the release of payments, ensuring financial transparency and timely invoicing. **Contract Management \& Procurement:** * Prepare and manage contracts, including negotiating terms with contractors and suppliers. * Assist in the preparation of tender documents, evaluating contractor bids, and recommending preferred suppliers or subcontractors. * Administer contracts by ensuring that all terms and conditions are met, and by handling claims, variations, and disputes. * Coordinate procurement activities, ensuring that materials and services are sourced at the best possible price and in a timely manner. * Ensure that all procurement processes comply with company policies, legal requirements, and project specifications. **Site Measurement \& Valuations:** * Conduct site visits to measure and assess the quantities of materials, labor, and equipment required for construction projects. * Perform periodic valuations of work completed on\-site, ensuring that payments to contractors are based on accurate and up\-to\-date information. * Prepare progress claims and certification of work completed for contractors and clients. * Evaluate and assess variations to the project scope, determining any changes in cost or work required. **Risk Management \& Cost Reporting:** * Identify and assess financial risks associated with construction projects and provide recommendations to mitigate those risks. * Prepare risk assessments for cost management, highlighting potential issues that may affect project costs or timelines. * Maintain comprehensive records of all cost\-related documents, including invoices, change orders, and variation requests. * Assist in resolving disputes related to costs, providing detailed cost breakdowns and explanations as necessary. **Collaboration \& Communication:** * Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure that the project’s financial goals are met. * Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on cost performance and financial projections. * Provide guidance on cost\-saving measures and efficient procurement strategies to the project team. * Collaborate with the finance department to reconcile costs and ensure proper financial documentation is maintained. **Quality \& Compliance:** * Ensure that all cost\-related activities comply with industry standards, legal
