About HWOM
Hiresha's World of Mushrooms (HWOM) is a women\-led medicinal mushroom enterprise rooted in the Himalayan heartland of Uttarakhand. Founded by Dr. Hiresha Verma a Uttarakhand Government\-recognised social entrepreneur and the "Himalayan Queen of Mushrooms" HWOM cultivates and processes high\-value medicinal mushrooms including Reishi, Lion's Mane, Oyster, Shiitake, and Cordyceps. Our mission is to build a regenerative bioeconomy that uplifts rural women through sustainable livelihoods and community\-rooted enterprise.
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Spawning Executive to join our production team. This is a hands\-on, technical role at the core of our mushroom cultivation supply chain. You will be responsible for the preparation, sterilisation, inoculation, and quality maintenance of spawn the foundation of our entire production operation. The ideal candidate combines technical precision with a genuine passion for mycology and sustainable agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and sterilise substrate materials (grain, sawdust, straw, agricultural waste) for spawn production
- Inoculate substrates with mother culture in aseptic/clean\-room conditions to prevent contamination
- Maintain and propagate pure mother cultures across multiple medicinal mushroom species (Reishi, Lion's Mane, Oyster, Shiitake, Cordyceps)
- Monitor spawn colonisation progress, maintain incubation logs, and identify early signs of contamination or failure
- Ensure strict hygiene and sterility protocols throughout all stages of spawn production
- Manage spawn inventory, rotation schedules, and cold\-storage conditions
- Support scaling of spawn production volumes in line with seasonal cultivation cycles and sales targets
- Coordinate with the cultivation team to align spawn supply with planting schedules
- Document all production batches, inputs, and outcomes in standardised production logs
- Train and support community\-level SHG members and rural cultivators on basic spawn handling best practices
Required Qualifications \& Skills
- Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Botany, Microbiology, Life Sciences, or a related field
- 1–3 years of hands\-on experience in mushroom spawn production or a closely related laboratory/production role
- Working knowledge of sterilisation techniques (autoclave, pressure cooker), aseptic inoculation, and LAF (Laminar Air Flow) bench operation
- Familiarity with common contamination vectors and ability to implement corrective actions
- Ability to maintain detailed production records and follow standard operating procedures
- Physical fitness for production floor work including lifting, standing, and operating production equipment
- Hindi proficiency required; basic English literacy preferred
Preferred Attributes
- Prior experience with medicinal mushroom species (Reishi, Cordyceps, Lion's Mane)
- Exposure to agri\-waste upcycling or substrate innovation
- Willingness to mentor and work alongside rural women SHG members
- Comfort working in a growing startup environment with evolving processes
